One person killed in armed brawl on New York subway
New York police have announced they are searching for an armed assailant who opened fire on a subway train and station platform in the Bronx, leaving one person dead and five others injured.
New York Police Department (NYPD) officials stated at a press conference held outside the station where the violence occurred that shots were fired inside a subway car while two groups of youths were fighting.
Police said the first shots were fired inside the train, but all six people who were struck were on the platform outside the train when they were hit by gunfire.
5 PEOPLE INJURED
A 34-year-old man lost his life, while five others who were taken to hospitals sustained injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
Data shows that an average of 3.8 million people travel on the New York subway on weekdays, and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority reported 570 felony assaults throughout 2023.
