The owner of the 'Yellow Mansion,' a favorite among contractors in Kadıköy, speaks out: 'I am against vertical construction'

The 'Yellow Mansion' in Kadıköy, built in the early 1900s, draws attention with its structure, appearance, and color.

Surrounded by gray, high-rise buildings, the mansion, which holds historical monument status, is now flanked by buildings ranging from 15 to 20 stories.

Although construction firms have offered the owner far more than the property's value to maintain and preserve it over the years, the owner refuses to sell, citing his opposition to vertical construction.

'WE MUST PROTECT THESE MANSIONS'

Local resident Tuncay Çökelek stated, "Protecting such homes is a wonderful thing for us. As an architect, I also want these types of houses to be preserved. They are a testament to our past. It is our duty to defend them to the end, as much as we can. If it were me, I wouldn't sell; if I had the means, I would protect this house to the end.

Of course, the infrastructure also needs to be handled well. There are those who are not in a good financial position, for example, someone who has a house inherited from their father. Certain expenses must be incurred to preserve and restore this house. Some can afford those costs, while others cannot. It was built in the early 1900s. We must protect these mansions," he said.
