Journalist and writer Uğur Mumcu was killed at the age of 51 on January 24, 1993, by a bomb placed in his car in front of his home in Ankara.

The master journalist's son, Özgür Mumcu, shared an emotional message about his father on his social media account on the 31st anniversary of his assassination.

'THERE ARE MANY BROKEN HEARTS'

Mumcu said, "It is not just a pair of broken glasses, there are many broken hearts. Our fathers should have been able to stay with us and kiss our eyes."

HOW DID UĞUR MUMCU DIE?

Uğur Mumcu lost his life at the age of 51 on January 24, 1993, in Ankara, falling victim to an assassination when a C-4 type plastic bomb placed in his car exploded in front of his home on Karlı Street.

It has been alleged that experts who examined the scene immediately after the assassination found no evidence, and that the evidence scattered by the explosion, which should have been collected with tweezers, was swept away with a broom.

WHY WAS UĞUR MUMCU KILLED?

Ümit Oğuztan, one of the defendants in the Ergenekon case, claimed in his statement included in the indictment that Uğur Mumcu was killed due to his research into weapons with erased serial numbers that were being taken to Kurdistan Democratic Party leader Jalal Talabani.
