Statement on 'violence against women' from Yargı screenwriter Sema Ergenekon

Sema Ergenekon, who has written the screenplays for numerous projects including 'Yargı', 'Menajerimi Ara', 'Zemheri', 'Gülperi', 'Kara Para Aşk', and 'Gümüş', stated that violence against women can be depicted in series if the script requires it.

'IT IS WRONG FOR MAIN CHARACTERS TO COMMIT VIOLENCE'

Speaking to Oksijen, Ergenekon said, "For example, the character Ilgaz in the series Yargı showed violence against a woman. I don't think it is right for main characters to do this. Because you have made the audience love those characters; they are the pillars that carry the story. But other characters can do such a thing, and I think it should be shown there. It is not the case that violence against women should never appear in a series. But I personally take issue with it if the main characters do it," and added:

"Because you have main characters who convey the emotion or thought of your feeling about life or the story of this series. They shouldn't do it. And if they do and fall into that mistake, they must pay a very heavy price for it."

Ergenekon's remarks sparked a debate in the art community.
