1 arrested, 3 under judicial control in 'beer debt' murder
In the Canik district of Samsun, one person was arrested and three others were released under judicial control following an armed fight over a 700-lira debt for 7 beers, which resulted in one death.
The incident occurred yesterday in the Yavuzselim neighborhood of the Canik district. According to allegations, a dispute broke out between the parties because a 700-lira debt for 7 beers purchased from a kiosk had not been paid for approximately 5 months.
The argument escalated quickly and turned into an armed fight. During the fight, Oğuz Başkan (35) was shot in the right groin and seriously wounded after shots were fired from a rifle and a handgun. Despite all interventions at the private hospital where he was taken by private vehicle, Başkan lost his life.
Following the incident, teams from the Canik District Police Department's Crime Prevention and Investigation Bureau detained kiosk owner Hasan T.'s sons, Ertan T. (31) and Yaşar T. (38), along with 1 unlicensed rifle and 1 unlicensed handgun determined to have been used in the incident. Police teams also detained the kiosk owner Hasan T. (61) and his other son, Hasan T. (33). Investigations determined that Ertan T. fired the rifle and Yaşar T. fired the handgun. Yaşar T. stated that he fired the handgun into the air to intimidate during the fight.
Kiosk owner Hasan T. claimed that the deceased had bought 7 beers from him 5 months ago for 700 lira but did not pay, and that he caused the incident when he asked for the money.
After completing their procedures at the Canik District Police Department, the kiosk owner and his 3 sons were referred to the Samsun Courthouse today. While Ertan T. was arrested by the duty magistrate and sent to prison, Hasan T. and his sons Yaşar T. and Hasan T. were released by the court under judicial control conditions.
