2.4 magnitude earthquake stirs up a district

A 2.4 magnitude earthquake that occurred in the Balya district of Balıkesir in the morning hours caused a brief stir in the district. The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) announced that the earthquake was recorded at 05:22.

According to AFAD data, the depth of the tremor was measured at 7 kilometers. The fact that the earthquake was felt with a rumbling sound and noise caused some citizens to wake up from their sleep.

Local residents, who are accustomed to occasional blasting at the lead and zinc mine operating at the entrance of the district, initially thought the tremor was caused by the mine. While some citizens who were worried about their relatives working at the mine tried to get information by phone, others went to the area to learn about the situation.

After it was understood that the tremor was caused by an earthquake, the activity in the district subsided. Balya Mayor Orhan Gaga stated that the concern was caused by the rumbling sound and that the event was nothing more than an earthquake.

Gaga stated that there were no negative consequences in the district due to the earthquake.
