A suspect has been arrested as part of an investigation launched into the theft of 5 thousand euros, 3 thousand dollars, and 5 thousand Saudi riyals from a person's bag at a mosque in Beyoğlu, Istanbul.
The incident occurred on October 4 at a mosque in Kocatepe Neighborhood. Following the report, teams from the Beyoğlu Public Security Bureau launched an investigation and examined a total of 620 minutes of security camera footage from 24 surrounding businesses.
As a result of the investigation, police teams identified the 41-year-old suspect as E.Ş. and detained him in an operation conducted at his home in Esenler.
During the search of the address, 2 thousand euros, 190 Saudi riyals, 14 thousand 200 liras, 2 mobile phones, a smartwatch, an unlicensed handgun, a magazine, and 7 cartridges were seized. Upon determining that the unlicensed handgun belonged to a woman named Y.B., she was also taken into custody.
Following their processing at the police station, the suspects were referred to the courthouse, where E.Ş. was arrested and sent to prison. Judicial control measures were applied to Y.B.
It was stated that the suspect's theft at the mosque and the moments he was walking on the street after the incident were captured on security camera footage.
