Found hanging in mosque
A person was found dead, hanging, in the Selimiye Mosque located in the Palandöken district of Erzurum.
According to the information obtained, the incident occurred during the time of the night prayer (yatsı). A citizen who came to the mosque to pray noticed the person hanging inside and reported the situation to the 112 Emergency Call Center.
Upon the report, health and police teams were dispatched to the scene. Checks performed by the medical teams determined that the individual had lost their life.
While police teams have launched a comprehensive investigation at the mosque and its surroundings, the body was taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute morgue for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death following crime scene investigation efforts.
Whether the incident was a suicide or occurred for another reason will become clear following the autopsy and investigation. The police investigation into the incident is ongoing.
