He tried the cologne video trend on TikTok, lost his battle for life: He had been in the hospital for 10 days
A 10-year-old child living in the Bornova district of İzmir set himself on fire with a lighter after pouring cologne on himself to conduct an experiment inspired by a video he watched on TikTok. The child, who was rushed to the hospital, lost his 10-day battle for life and passed away.
The incident occurred on December 17 in the Yıldırım Beyazıt neighborhood of the Bornova district.
According to the information obtained, 10-year-old Mert Yetiştiren, who was reportedly home alone, conducted an experiment after watching videos of the cologne-burning trend on TikTok.
The young child, who poured cologne on himself and set it on fire with a lighter, was subsequently unable to extinguish the flames, resulting in burns on his body.
After struggling to put out the fire, the child informed his family of the situation by phone. Upon arriving home, his mother rushed Mert Yetiştiren to the hospital.
LOST HIS BATTLE FOR LIFE
Mert Yetiştiren, who was taken under treatment at the Dr. Behçet Uz Children's Diseases and Surgery Training and Research Hospital, could not be saved despite all interventions and lost his life.
Following the examination at the İzmir Forensic Medicine Institute, the young child was laid to rest by his relatives.
The investigation launched into the incident is ongoing.
