Last search in jewelry store robbery attempt draws attention

In the Antakya district of Hatay, an attempt to break into a jewelry store by drilling through a wall has been solved through police work. The incident occurred on October 1, 2026, at the 100. Yıl Bazaar in the Haraparası neighborhood.

According to the information obtained, two suspects, one of whom was a woman, hid their faces with masks and forced their way into a tailor shop owned by Süleyman Tarhana. The suspects attempted to reach the steel safe of the adjacent jewelry store by cutting through the wall inside the shop with an angle grinder.

The suspects, who also tried to cut various parts of the safe, left the scene without taking any items after failing to open it. When Tarhana arrived at his workplace in the morning and noticed the smell of burning and the hole in the wall, the situation was reported to the police.

120 HOURS OF CAMERA FOOTAGE REVIEWED

Following the incident, teams from the Hatay Police Department launched a large-scale investigation in the area. Approximately 120 hours of footage from 45 separate security cameras in and around the bazaar were examined. After field work, it was determined that the suspects were A.A. and E.Y.

Security camera recordings revealed the suspects' movements around the bazaar.

During the investigation, it was determined that A.A. was a tradesman in the same bazaar where the jewelry store is located, and that E.Y. worked as a laborer at the same business. When police teams went to an address in the Konacık neighborhood of Arsuz district, it was determined that A.A. had passed away due to a heart attack. The other suspect, E.Y., was apprehended and taken into custody.

An examination of A.A.'s mobile phone revealed that their last internet search was, "How many years is the penalty for safe robbery?" This detail was among the findings that drew attention in the investigation file.

Ali Haydar İmsiyatoğlu, a neighbor of the jewelry store where the robbery attempt took place, stated that security forces had examined camera recordings for days and expressed relief that nothing was taken in the incident. İmsiyatoğlu said, "I truly appreciate the security forces. They were very diligent about the incident."
