Mother and son found dead at home in Urla, İzmir: Police launch investigation
In the Urla district of İzmir, 60-year-old Nurten Kandemir and her 19-year-old son, Ahmet Barış Kandemir, were found dead in their home.
In an incident that occurred in the morning hours in the İskele neighborhood of İzmir's Urla district, Nurten Kandemir (60) and her son Ahmet Barış Kandemir (19) were found dead in their home.
School transport staff, who arrived at the house to take Ahmet Barış Kandemir—who was reported to be receiving treatment for leukemia and to have a mental disability—to his special education school, knocked on the door after not seeing the young man outside. Suspecting something was wrong when the door was not opened, the staff looked through the window and saw the mother and son motionless.
Upon notification, health and police teams were dispatched to the address. Checks by the medical teams confirmed that Nurten Kandemir and Ahmet Barış Kandemir had lost their lives.
According to the initial police investigation, it is believed that Nurten Kandemir shot her son with a handgun before taking her own life with the same weapon. The bodies of the mother and son were taken to the morgue for autopsy procedures.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
