The rainfall that began in Istanbul yesterday evening caused serious disruptions in citywide morning traffic. Vehicles struggled to move in places on the D-100 highway, the TEM Motorway, connecting roads, and bridge crossings.
According to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality's traffic density map, citywide density reached 80 percent. While this rate rose to 89 percent on the Anatolian side, density was measured at 71 percent on the European side.

On the Anatolian side, there was heavy traffic on the D-100 highway in the Edirne direction from Kartal to the Eurasia Tunnel entrance. In the opposite direction, traffic starting from Göztepe was intermittently heavy as far as Kartal. Vehicles also moved slowly on the section of the TEM Motorway between Sultanbeyli and Çamlıca.
For crossings to the European side, traffic intensified from the Uzunçayır location in the direction of the 15 July Martyrs Bridge, and from Kozyatağı in the direction of the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge. The closure of two lanes to traffic on the Pendik Coastal Road in the direction of Kartal due to rainwater accumulation also increased the disruptions.
On the European side, bidirectional density was observed on the D-100 highway around Avcılar, Yenibosna, Cevizlibağ, the Haliç Bridge, Okmeydanı, and Mecidiyeköy. Vehicles moved slowly in the Ankara direction of the TEM Motorway at the Ispartakule, Bahçeşehir, Hasdal, and Seyrantepe locations.
While bidirectional traffic also formed on the Zincirlikuyu direction of Büyükdere Street and on the Basın Ekspres road, crowds were notable at public transport stops.
