Pro-government media shifts into higher gear in targeting campaign

Former ambassador and CHP Istanbul deputy Namık Tan, who criticized Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan's remarks regarding Israel—"Their masters must now take the leash and take control. The region is in no position to handle further Israeli provocations"—on his social media account, dominated the front pages and websites of pro-government media today.

Criticizing Fidan for "succumbing to delusion," Tan had noted, "Diplomacy is not conducted with street slang." Tan had stated, "After speaking at length about state discipline and gravity, he then succumbs to his anger and addresses Israel with the 'leashed' characterization, using street slang. Diplomacy is about speaking little and doing much in silence. It is about not succumbing to delusion. It is about being able to curb the seductiveness of exciting the masses. It is about not being swayed by the artificial praise of sycophantic crowds." These criticisms made him a target.

Yeni Şafak newspaper covered the statement with the headline "The leash bothered the CHP: Tan has now targeted Fidan," TGRT Haber with "CHP's Namık Tan's 'leash' discomfort! He responded to Minister Fidan's jab at Israel," Yeni Akit newspaper with "He pleased Greece first, now Israel! Hakan Fidan's words infuriated CHP's Namık Tan," and Türkiye newspaper with "Whose deputy is CHP's Namık Tan? He reacted to Minister Fidan and defended the genocidal ones."

Although Tan did not use any language defending Israel in his statement, he was broadly declared an 'Israel defender' in the reports of the reactionary press.

AKIT, AS USUAL

Yeni Akit, which never loses its top spot in the business of targeting, came out today with an 'exposure' headline featuring 6 people, including politicians and writers.

The 'newspaper,' which hit the stands with the headline "The spineless opposition," placed photos of CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, IYI Party Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu, writers Ataol Behramoğlu and Zülal Kalkandelen, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, and journalist Fatih Altaylı in this 'news' piece, writing under each of them how much they defended Israel by presenting baseless accusations as if they were evidence.
