A letter from Üsküdar Mayor Sinem Dedetaş
Sharing a message on the 68th day of her detention, Sinem Dedetaş expressed her gratitude for the letters of solidarity sent to her.
Üsküdar Mayor Sinem Dedetaş, who was arrested 68 days ago as part of operations targeting municipalities, has shared a message from the prison where she is being held.
Dedetaş, who is currently at the Karatepe Prison in Çorlu, stated in her message that instead of describing prison conditions, she wanted to talk about the letters of solidarity sent to her. Dedetaş expressed that the letters helped her cope with feelings of loneliness, longing, and injustice.
In her post, Dedetaş included a story of solidarity sent to her, which was described through the metaphor of "lace" (oya). The letter used the image of sunflowers turning toward the sun to illustrate the idea of turning one's face toward those being shown solidarity during difficult times.
“May your head never bow; our prayers, our faith, and our good energy are turned toward you. Our day begins with patience and love. Until you are free, our faces will remain turned toward you...”
Thanking those who supported her at the end of her message, Dedetaş said, “With my love to all the friends and all my sisters whose faces are turned toward us, and who send their feelings of solidarity and prayers...”
