Another mayor expelled from CHP
The CHP High Disciplinary Board has decided to expel Mezitli Mayor Ahmet Serkan Tuncer from the party; the files of 9 deputies have been closed.
A new expulsion decision has been taken within the scope of the disciplinary process in the Republican People's Party (CHP). Following a meeting held at the CHP Headquarters on September 18, 2026, the CHP High Disciplinary Board announced that Mezitli Mayor Ahmet Serkan Tuncer has been expelled from the party.
Tuncer had previously been referred to the High Disciplinary Board by the CHP Central Executive Board with a request for permanent expulsion with precautionary measures. The referral decision in question was announced to the public in the party's statement dated June 12, 2026.
During the board meeting, the files of 9 deputies who were referred to disciplinary action with a request for permanent expulsion were also brought to the agenda. The files concerning Balıkesir Deputy Ensar Aytekin, Mersin Deputy Ali Mahir Başarır, Istanbul Deputy Gökhan Günaydın, Bursa Deputy Nurhayat Altaca Kayışoğlu, Istanbul Deputy Özgür Karabat, Ankara Deputy Umut Akdoğan, Malatya Deputy Veli Ağbaba, Istanbul Deputy Turan Taşkın Özer, and Adana Deputy Burhanettin Bulut were evaluated.
The CHP High Disciplinary Board announced that the disciplinary files regarding these deputies were closed due to their joining the YENİ Party. Thus, while an expulsion decision was issued for Tuncer at the meeting, the process regarding the 9 deputies was concluded.
