Breaking News... DEM Party group meeting: Another call for İmralı following Bahçeli
DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan made statements at the party's group meeting in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM). Bakırhan issued another call, stating that a commission should visit İmralı.
The Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) group meeting in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) has begun.
During the meeting, DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan made statements regarding the current agenda.
The highlights of Bakırhan's speech are as follows:
"The Middle East is going through a historical and vital period. The process in Syria must be inclusive. It must be a process that encompasses Kurds, Druze, Alevis, Circassians, Turkmens, and Assyrians, and guarantees their rights.
Turkey can help. We attach importance to Turkey's role in Syria and state once again that it should be used correctly.
IMM INDICTMENT
Political trials imprison not only people but also a country's sense of justice. Turkey is once again facing an indictment and a trial written with political motives. An indictment prepared against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu has been released. We have examined it. It is like a labyrinth. You get lost the deeper you go. No matter how much you read it, you cannot say, 'Okay, this is the indictment.' Because the indictment is fragmented and masked. It contains an effort of interpretation that is slippery and remains constantly on the surface.
One of the most important accusations is that 'they wanted to gain power within the CHP.' What is the crime in a politician wanting to gain power within their own party? We do the same. I hope they do not file a lawsuit against us.
Democracy is not just about going to the ballot box; what is important is to respect the result of the ballot box. It is time to save politics in Turkey from the captivity of indictments. We reject any approach that sacrifices one for the other."
PROCESS STATEMENT
"I will share the steps that need to be taken to accelerate peace firsthand. First, a transition period law must be enacted. Second, the total removal of appointed trustees (kayyum) and the strengthening of local governments. Third, the closure of the Administrative Observation Board and, in fact, the release of prisoners. Fourth, the reinstatement of the Academics for Peace and those dismissed unlawfully by statutory decrees (KHK). Their professions were taken away from them. There were even those who committed suicide. Calling for peace is not a crime. The real crime is putting those who call for peace on trial. There is no need for a law for this. It is enough to simply implement the decisions made by the administrative judiciary. Fifth is judicial reform. The Turkish Penal Code (TCK), the Criminal Procedure Code (CMK), and the Law on the Execution of Sentences must be changed. The Anti-Terror Law must be completely abolished. Thought should not be a crime, the press should be free, and freedom of expression must be guaranteed. This is a shame for a government. Justice should not discriminate between rich, poor, powerful, or powerless. Justice must be established for everyone.
Of course, it cannot fulfill all the requirements of peace. Its areas of duty are clear. But it can pave the way to peace with justice, law, and democracy. We must remove certain criticisms.
The commission must now make a courageous decision to go to İmralı without further delay."
