Breaking News... New Party begins its establishment with a historic march: Özgür Özel sets off toward the First Parliament

On July 24, a day witnessing significant developments in Turkish politics, the New Party was officially established with the support of 91 deputies who broke away from the Republican People's Party (CHP). Following the submission of the establishment petition, the party's chairman, Özgür Özel, made statements after performing Friday prayers at the Hacı Bayram-ı Veli Mosque and then began a march toward the historic First Parliament.

Met with intense interest in the mosque courtyard, Özel briefly experienced difficulty entering the mosque. After performing his prayers with the accompanying deputies and supporters, the New Party leader drew attention to the significance of the agenda.

"Today, you are with us on an important day, a very important and critical day when looking back at the history of Turkish politics in the future.

We are here today at the Hacı Bayram Veli Mosque, where Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk performed Friday prayers on April 23, 1920, with the Representative Committee (Heyet-i Temsiliye) he invited, at the end of that glorious march where he left behind his ranks, uniforms, palaces, and official authorities to organize the liberation and foundation after he could no longer tolerate the occupation of Istanbul and then Izmir, and set out for Anatolia from Istanbul on the Bandırma Ferry.

In a little while, we will follow the path taken by our founder, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and as always, we will go to the First Parliament, and we will once again pay our respects in that historic building where Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his friends opened the First Parliament, managed the War of Independence, and subsequently achieved liberation.

And we are in the place where Sèvres was torn up; that is, where certain agreements, calculations, and surrenders in the Middle East and within and outside our borders were torn up, where the independent Republic of Turkey was proclaimed, and where those solid foundations and columns have carried us from that day to this. We are of the same determination. We are not one step, not one centimeter away from Lausanne, from the National Pact (Misak-ı Milli) borders, from the indivisible integrity of Turkey, or from the founding values of our party and the republic."
