CHP decides on tea rally

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel will hold a 'Grand Pensioners' Rally' in Ankara this weekend, following the 'Grand Education Rally' he organized in Istanbul last weekend.

Özel's third rally is planned to be held in Rize.

CHP organizations in the Black Sea region have begun preparations for a 'Tea Rally' to draw attention to the problems of tea producers and to find solutions.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry announced the 2024 fresh tea purchase price as 17 liras per kilogram on May 11.

The Ministry announced that the support payment provided to producers was set at two liras. The fresh tea purchase price, which was updated from 11 liras to 19 liras, did not satisfy the producers. Producers in Rize and surrounding provinces held protests, including closing shops and marching.

ÖZEL: IT MUST BE AT LEAST 25 LIRAS

During the local election campaign period, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel had drawn attention to the problems of tea producers and made an assessment regarding the fresh tea purchase price at a rally he held in the Pazar district of Rize on March 19.

Özel had stated the following:

- Life has become expensive; under these conditions, the base price should be announced as at least 25 liras this year. We will never accept a tea price below 25 liras. Any price below 25 liras is the exploitation of labor and is taking away from the soup and bread of Pazar and Rize.

PROVINCIAL CHAIRMEN REQUESTED IT

The CHP is now preparing for a rally to draw attention to the problems experienced by tea producers.

CHP Rize Provincial Chairman Saltuk Deniz announced in a post on his social media account that the provincial chairmen of the region had a joint request for a rally due to the low fresh tea purchase price announced.
