CHP's Günaydın challenges AKP benches in Parliament over 'double salary' issue

Republican People's Party (CHP) Group Deputy Chair Gökhan Günaydın raised the "double salary" allegation concerning Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek at the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. Günaydın stated that a salary was being received from another institution in violation of the Judges and Prosecutors Act.

According to information recently shared with the public by CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, it was stated that after being appointed as the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor, Akın Gürlek served as a board member at the state-owned company Eti Maden from November 2024 to August 2025, receiving a salary for nine months.

According to Article 59 of the Judges and Prosecutors Act, members of the judiciary are prohibited from receiving a salary from any institution or organization during their active duty.

"WHAT DO THE COLLEAGUES WHO HAVE A WORD FOR EVERYTHING SAY TO THIS?"

In his speech from the parliamentary podium, Günaydın turned to the AKP benches and said:

"I am saying it now. You colleagues who have a word for every subject, what do you say to this? A prosecutor who receives a salary from an institution under the administration of the Turkey Wealth Fund is dispensing justice in Turkey. What do you say to this? Is this an example of the legislature, executive, and judiciary working independently of each other, or is it a legal scandal? Will the Council of Judges and Prosecutors remain silent on this as well?"

INSTEAD OF A RESPONSE, A "2071" MESSAGE FROM THE AKP

There was no response from the AKP benches to this challenge by CHP's Günaydın.

Group Deputy Chair Muhammet Emin Akbaşoğlu, who took the floor on behalf of the AKP Group, did not address the allegations in his speech.

In his statement, Akbaşoğlu spoke about rare earth elements in Eskişehir, unmanned aerial vehicles, nuclear energy projects, and Turkey's 2071 vision.
