CHP responds to DEM Party regarding 'report': 'It is wrong to evaluate it as a Kurdish report'

DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan made statements regarding the reports prepared by the Imralı Process commission in Parliament. Criticizing the report prepared by the CHP in particular, Bakırhan stated that this report ignores the reality that parties are under pressure.

Bakırhan used harsh language, stating, "I was most saddened by the CHP's report. Which party is not under pressure? Currently, thousands of our friends are in prison or in exile. There is not one friend of ours who does not have a case against them. This is not an excuse. If the CHP is going to write a report, they should take the report written by the SHP in '89 and update it." These statements by Bakırhan further fueled the criticisms directed at the CHP's report.

RESPONSE FROM MURAT EMİR

CHP Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir provided a written response to Bakırhan's statements. Emir stated that the report prepared by the CHP does not reflect the views of only one segment of society. Expressing that the commission's goal is to offer solutions to problems related to democracy, the rule of law, and social peace, Emir emphasized that every page of the report includes citizens who have been marginalized, subjected to injustice, had their fundamental rights and freedoms obstructed, or been subjected to discrimination.

Emir said, "Our report focuses on creating a Turkey where every individual feels equal and can exercise their fundamental rights and freedoms in the broadest sense." Stating that the report has a perspective that encompasses all groups, such as Kurds, Turks, Alevis, and Sunnis, Emir expressed that it is wrong to evaluate the report as a "Kurdish report."

Emir also made a statement regarding the regulation known in the public eye as the "return home law." Stating that this regulation will be initiated in a healthy manner through the work of the justice bureaucracy, Emir indicated that the CHP is determined to be the pioneer of the steps that politics must take to permanently end terrorism.

BAKIRHAN'S CRITICISMS OF THE CHP'S REPORT

In his statement regarding the CHP's report, Tuncer Bakırhan argued that the report prepared in the face of pressures and problems across the country was insufficient. Specifically citing the fact that thousands of people are in prison or in exile as a justification, Bakırhan reacted to the report being nothing more than an update of a text written in previous years. Citing the report written by the SHP in 1989 as an example, Bakırhan stated that the CHP should have conducted a more in-depth study.
