DEVA and Saadet parties form a group, CHP deputy returns to his party
Ali Fazıl Kasap announced that he is resigning from the Saadet Party to return to the Republican People's Party (CHP). Kasap stated, "I am returning to my home base."
Kütahya Deputy Ali Fazıl Kasap has announced his resignation from the Saadet Party and his return to the Republican People's Party (CHP).
Kasap stated that he had joined the Saadet Party temporarily to ensure the continued existence of the Saadet Party Group in Parliament and that he is now returning to his 'home base'.
The decision increases the CHP's representation in Parliament while reducing the number of seats held by the Saadet Party to 20.
In his statement, Ali Fazıl Kasap said, "We have fulfilled our mission and duty. We are returning to the nest, to our home base."
Kasap noted that his return to the party would be officially announced at the CHP parliamentary group meeting to be held next week and that Chairman Özgür Özel would deliver a speech of appreciation. Kasap also added that he had submitted his resignation to the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).
Ali Fazıl Kasap had joined the Saadet Party following the passing of Kocaeli Deputy Hasan Bitmez in order to maintain the party's group status in Parliament. During this process, he emphasized that while other parties did not provide support to keep the Saadet Party Group active, the CHP supported it by carrying the opposition.
