Discomfort in DEM Party over the process: Even the simplest steps are not being taken
DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan criticized the government at the TBMM group meeting over the appointment of trustees, bans on the press, and the Kobani trial.
DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan made assessments regarding the agenda at his party's first TBMM group meeting of the new legislative year. Bakırhan reacted to the government over the appointment of trustees and bans on the press, arguing that no concrete steps have been taken regarding democratic rights.
Starting his speech by addressing the attack at a school in Istanbul's Başakşehir district, Bakırhan said that permanent measures must be taken against violence and peer bullying in schools. He stated that preventive programs in which education unions, families, students, and experts work together should be implemented on this issue.
KOBANI TRIAL AND TRUSTEE CRITICISM
Commemorating those who lost their lives on the anniversary of the October 6-8 Kobani events, Bakırhan stated that the perpetrators of the events have not been identified. Bakırhan said, "It was a very dark period. The perpetrators of all our citizens who lost their lives must also be revealed as soon as possible."
Touching upon the Kobani trial, Bakırhan argued that legal problems persist despite the years that have passed and said that imprisoned politicians should be released. Bakırhan used the expression, "Our friends are still imprisoned and they need to regain their freedom now."
Bakırhan also touched upon the fund scandal and economic crisis topics that have been discussed in recent days. Stating that broad segments of society are facing livelihood difficulties, Bakırhan drew attention to the problems experienced by retirees and children who are forced to work.
Criticizing the appointment of trustees within the scope of political process discussions, Bakırhan said that the government needs to take sincere and realistic steps. Saying, "Even the simplest steps are not being taken," Bakırhan called for respect for the will of the people.
"There is a process where trustees have been appointed. Are we going to wait for the MGK's decision for these trustees? It is necessary to be a bit more genuine and realistic. We say no to our pockets being robbed, our will being usurped, and our rights being rendered unusable. Our call is clear: End the censorship and bans on the press, and respect the will of the people."
