'Framework law' rift in YENİ Party: 'I will vote NO'

YENİ Party Muğla MP Süreyya Öneş Derici shared her stance on the framework law vote with the public through a statement on her social media account.

Derici stated that she will vote "no" in the vote to be held in Parliament on Monday. In her statement, Derici referred to the relevant section of the parliamentary oath, emphasizing the existence and independence of the state, the indivisible integrity of the homeland and the nation, the rule of law, the democratic and secular republic, and commitment to Atatürk's principles and reforms.

"I swear that I will protect the existence and independence of the state, the indivisible integrity of the homeland and the nation, and the unconditional sovereignty of the nation; that I will remain committed to the rule of law, the democratic and secular republic, and Atatürk's principles and reforms..."

Derici's statement is as follows:

"In the parliamentary oath I took at the Assembly podium;

'I swore upon my honor and integrity before the great Turkish Nation that I would protect the existence and independence of the state, the indivisible integrity of the homeland and the nation, and the unconditional sovereignty of the nation; and that I would remain committed to the rule of law, the democratic and secular republic, and Atatürk's principles and reforms.'

In line with my personal principles, which I have never compromised and will never compromise throughout my life, and the authority to represent that our nation has given me,

I hereby inform the public that I will vote NO in the framework law vote to be held on Monday.

REFERENDUM CALL FROM ENGİNYURT

On the other hand, YENİ Party Istanbul MP Cemal Enginyurt had stated in a post on X yesterday, "Let's ask the PEOPLE about the framework law. Let a referendum be held."

WHAT HAPPENED?

The YENİ Party did not sign the proposal submitted to the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), but it had voted 'yes' during the discussions in the Justice Commission.

YENİ Party Deputy Chairman Nurhayat Altaca Kayışoğlu had also announced in a program she attended on Halk TV that her party would support the regulation in the General Assembly.

Kayışoğlu had used the following expressions in her statement:

“We already voted yes in the commission. In the report, we said that this law should be enacted but that the democratization process must also take place. We are continuing this work and our struggle. We say the same thing: let weapons be laid down, but at the same time, let's pass the trustee regulation, let ECHR decisions and Constitutional Court decisions be implemented, and let democratization be carried out. Let's end this injustice altogether.”

YENİ Party Diyarbakır MP Sezgin Tanrıkulu had said, "When the proposal comes to the general assembly, we will both make our criticisms and take responsibility. This responsibility, of course, means saying 'YES'."
