Ibrahim Özkan responds to AKP candidate Murat Kurum: 'You are mistaken'

Following the AKP's announcement of Murat Kurum as its candidate for the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) mayoralty, various figures have issued statements regarding this choice one after another.

Murat Kurum began his election campaign immediately after his candidacy was announced.

Explaining the actions he would take at events he attended in various locations, Kurum made a statement regarding the Mahmutbey traffic, announcing that he would solve Istanbul's transportation and traffic problems once he takes office.

REACTION FROM IBRAHIM ÖZKAN TO KURUM'S STATEMENT

The first reaction to Murat Kurum's statement that he would solve the problems in Istanbul's traffic if elected mayor came from former IYI Party member and independent Istanbul municipal councilor Ibrahim Özkan.

Özkan first congratulated Kurum on his candidacy and then listed the errors in his statement. Here is that post by Özkan:

"Mr. Murat Kurum, first of all, congratulations on your candidacy. The area you are talking about is under the jurisdiction of the General Directorate of Highways, and therefore the Ministry of Transport.

When engaging in critical politics regarding transportation in Istanbul, it would be beneficial for you to first know which areas are under IBB control and which are under Ministry control.

Despite our written applications since 2021 stating that we, as the IBB, should do it; you have a letter stating 'no, we will do it'.

Just as you have no right to make the people of Istanbul suffer this ordeal, it is also not right for you to use this situation for political purposes.

As an IBB councilor, I wanted to respond out of my sense of responsibility."
