Imprisoned Kuşadası Mayor Ömer Günel resigns from CHP
Kuşadası Mayor Ömer Günel, who was arrested and suspended from his duties, cited the ongoing party congress and management debates within the CHP as the reason for his resignation.
Kuşadası Mayor Ömer Günel, who was arrested and suspended from his duties as a precautionary measure, has announced his resignation from CHP membership.
In a written statement, Günel cited the congress and management debates within the CHP as the reason for his decision. Arguing that his party has been distanced from the principles of the Republic, democracy, and the rule of law, Günel stated that there is no longer any possibility of engaging in politics within the CHP under the current circumstances.
In his statement, Günel also touched upon the local court's decision of "absolute nullity," claiming that the party congresses, which he said were based on the will of the people, had been canceled and that the former chairman and administration had been appointed to lead the party.
