Indictment against CHP mayor: Up to 2 years and 4 months in prison
An indictment has been prepared against CHP Sancaktepe Mayor Alper Yeğin, seeking up to 2 years and 4 months in prison on charges of insulting former mayor and member of parliament İsmail Erdem.
The expert report included in the indictment prepared by the Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated that CHP Sancaktepe Mayor Alper Yeğin made the 'insult' in question from the parliamentary podium and that a video of this speech was published on the municipality's official YouTube page.

INDICTMENT FOR THE CRIME OF INSULT
It was noted that in the defense submitted through his attorney, the suspect argued that the speeches in question should be evaluated within the scope of freedom of expression and fundamental rights and freedoms.
The indictment, which requests a prison sentence of 1 year to 2 years and 4 months for the suspect Yeğin for the crime of "insult," has been sent to the Anatolian Criminal Court of First Instance for evaluation.
