Investigation launched into woman who waved Quran at İmamoğlu rally

Investigation launched into woman who waved Quran at İmamoğlu rally

The press statement issued by the Governor's Office regarding the provocation included the following remarks:

Regarding the protest incident during the program held by the IMM in our Çekmeköy district, where a citizen identified as (B.K.) raised a Quran in the air, investigations have determined:

It has been established that the individual identified as (B.K.) has investigation files under the charges of “Threat, Insult, Damage to Property, Encroachment on Property, Disturbing the Peace and Tranquility of Individuals, and Violation of Residential Immunity,” and that she was held in custody for a period at the Rize L-Type Penal Institution in 2022.

Examinations have found no evidence of any organizational ties, and an investigation into the matter has been initiated.

WHAT HAPPENED?

IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu attended the Sancaktepe-Sultanbeyli metro opening. Moments that would create a stir occurred while İmamoğlu was speaking at the opening. A person present at the rally interrupted İmamoğlu's speech by waving a Quran in her hand, attempting to provoke him. İmamoğlu said, "If you want to gift it to me, I will take the Quran from you. Our sister is a misled sister."

Citizens in the area reacted to the person attempting the provocation. As booing sounds rose in the area, İmamoğlu tried to calm the citizens down.

İmamoğlu reacted to the events with the words, "Slandering with the holy Quran in one's hand is the greatest of sins. May God help her. May God help her during the blessed month of Ramadan. These friends have deceived even sisters like her. They have ruined even them. May God reform those who take the holy Quran in their hands and use it for politics."
