The mayorship changed hands in the vote held following the resignation of Semih Şahin in Bilecik Municipality. In the vote, the AKP, MHP, and İYİ Party all voted for the same candidate.

İYİ Party's Bilal Uzun takes a jab at the AKP, with whom they formed an alliance in the municipal election, over the 'freak presidential system'

Following Şahin's resignation, the election was won by the İYİ Party candidate Mustafa Sadık Kaya, who also received the votes of the AKP and MHP. After this alliance, a post containing sharp jabs at the AKP came from İYİ Party member Bilal Uzun.

In the first round for the mayorship, the mayoral candidates received 11 votes for CHP member Melek Mızrak Subaşı, nicknamed 'Bilecik's Targaryen' on social media, 10 votes for AKP's Hasan Cinit, and 4 votes for Mustafa Sadık Kaya, an independent who resigned from the İYİ Party. Since a two-thirds majority of the members was required, the vote went to a second round, and when the result did not change, it moved to the third round where a simple majority was sufficient.

In this round, where Cinit withdrew his candidacy, Mustafa Sadık Kaya was elected mayor with 14 votes against the 11 votes received by Melek Mızrak Subaşı.

'FREAK PRESIDENTIAL SYSTEM' CRITICISM FROM İYİ PARTY MEMBER AFTER ALLIANCE WITH AKP

Bilecik Mayor Kaya stated in his remarks to journalists that he was elected to the post with the favor of the council members, saying, "I have presided over the presidential council 3 times, and this time I became a candidate. May it be auspicious for Bilecik. Whatever Bilecik needs, the funds will be spent there.

I want the people of Bilecik to know this. We will continue to work hand in hand for Bilecik," he said.

Making a statement regarding the election won after the alliance formed with the AKP and MHP, İYİ Party GİK member and Istanbul 2nd District parliamentary candidate Bilal Uzun used the phrase 'freak presidential system' in a post on his X account.

Uzun said, "May our first provincial municipality be auspicious. I see this provincial municipality passing to us as a positive sign. Of course, March 31 will be very different. As I always say, this year we will win at least 8 provincial municipalities, including 3 metropolitan ones, and more than 100 district municipalities. What matters is what comes after that; we must work hard and show our people that we are an alternative government that will put an end to this freak presidential system in 2028.”

Bilal Uzun expressed his discomfort with the alliance formed with the AKP in the municipal elections being brought up too much in a new post on his social media account. Uzun stated that it was not correct to interpret the developments as an alliance and leveled accusations at the CHP.
