İYİ Party Ankara MP Kürşad Zorlu has brought the allegation that foreigners are obtaining citizenship through sham real estate sales to the agenda of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM). In a parliamentary question submitted to Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya, Zorlu asked whether there are any efforts underway to prevent abuses in the acquisition of citizenship.

İYİ Party Ankara MP Kürşad Zorlu has brought the allegation that foreign nationals are obtaining Republic of Türkiye citizenship through sham real estate sales to the agenda of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM).

Zorlu submitted a parliamentary question to the Speaker of the Parliament, requesting a response from Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya on the matter.

Stating that they have received various complaints regarding the practice that grants citizenship rights to foreigners through real estate sales, Zorlu said, "One of the increasing complaints is the allegation that sham sales are being resorted to through foreign individuals and intermediaries. According to this allegation, the same apartment is sold on paper to another foreigner when the period expires, and in this way, a citizenship chain is created. Therefore, it is essential to initiate an investigation and even a judicial process in this context. In this case, the cancellation of many citizenships may be in question."

Kürşad Zorlu directed the following questions to Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya:

Are there any findings or investigations being conducted regarding the allegations of sham sales?

Is any work being done to prevent the acquisition of citizenship through sham sales? If so, what are these efforts?

Has any analysis or research been conducted on whether the practice of granting citizenship to foreigners through real estate sales could have negative effects on Türkiye's demographic structure?

Since the date the practice of granting citizenship to foreigners through real estate sales began, how many foreigners have been granted Turkish citizenship? How is this number distributed by year?

Is there a breakdown of which countries the foreigners who were granted citizenship are citizens of? If so, how is this distribution shaped?

How has the contribution of the practice of granting citizenship to foreigners through real estate sales to the national economy been evaluated? What are the economic benefits and potential risks of this practice?
