İYİ Party's Poyraz reacts to AKP benches over 'fund crisis'

The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) convened under the chairmanship of Deputy Speaker Celal Adan. Before moving to the General Assembly agenda, one of the main topics raised by group deputy chairs was the developments in capital markets, known in the public eye as the "fund crisis."

Opposition representatives reiterated their call for the establishment of an investigative committee, stating that the allegations must be investigated under the roof of the Parliament. İYİ Party Group Deputy Chair Uğur Poyraz addressed the ruling party benches with harsh expressions.

Arguing that the establishment of an investigative committee cannot be left to the discretion of the ruling party, Poyraz said, "The TBMM must do what is necessary in this regard, the government must do what is necessary. The government is not an authority of acceptance in this sense."

Stating that ruling party deputies are also under suspicion due to the allegations, Poyraz reacted with the words, "You have had to bow your heads for 15 days, you have not been able to utter a single word for 15 days."

Do you feel no shame, no embarrassment at all for rendering the TBMM so dysfunctional and for certifying that you yourselves have become dysfunctional?

— Uğur Poyraz

Poyraz stated that the allegations must be addressed in all their aspects by the committee, using the expression, "This investigative committee will be established in this parliament; it will be established one way or another."

JOINT COMMITTEE CALL FROM THE OPPOSITION

New Way Group President Mehmet Emin Ekmen also stated that the prolongation of the process harms the public and requested that the lists be disclosed. Ekmen made the call, "Come, let us establish a committee today under the roof of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey regarding the biggest fund fraud in history."

CHP Group Deputy Chair Sevda Erdan Kılıç said that journalists and social media accounts sharing information about the "fund crisis" are facing access bans. Kılıç stated that blocking decisions have been taken against 147 accounts that have shared posts on the subject since September 30.

Emphasizing that an investigative committee should be established in Parliament instead of closing accounts, Kılıç expressed that the questions "Who gained what? Who knew and did not do their duty? Who has political and bureaucratic ties?" must be answered.

CHP Group Deputy Chair Ali Mahir Başarır also reminded that opposition groups in Parliament have submitted an investigative motion. Bringing up allegations regarding some ministers and their relatives, Başarır said, "There is the curse of 500 thousand people, of families here."

Reminding that the Parliament has established committees in the past for critical events such as Susurluk, Başarır said that investigating the allegations and sharing them with the public is one of the fundamental duties of the legislative body.
