Saadet Party Chairman Mahmut Arıkan made evaluations regarding the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement signed between Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan. Speaking at the New Way Party group meeting in the TBMM, Arıkan stated that they would not support the agreement in its current form.
Stating that the proposal will be discussed in the TBMM General Assembly today, Arıkan said, "As the Saadet Party, we declare to our dear nation that we will not take on such a responsibility and that we will not accept the Mecca Agreement in its current form."
Arıkan emphasized that they are not against cooperation between regional countries. The Saadet Party leader stated, "We advocate for regional countries to come together for their common future. We have always expressed this. However, we do not accept building the security of one Muslim country upon the insecurity of another Muslim country."
CRITICISM OF AK PARTY ON ITS 24TH YEAR
In his speech, Arıkan also touched upon the 24th anniversary of the AK Party's rise to power, recalling their 2002 election manifesto. Citing the sentence in the manifesto, "Our people are not responsible for the crisis. Those who govern the country are responsible for the crisis," Arıkan argued that the AK Party came to power with the promise of solving crises but is now in the position of being the "chief culprit of a thousand and one crises."
Arıkan also criticized the debates surrounding the investigations and allegations that have recently been reflected in the public eye. He claimed that politics has been dragged into a "race to make people forget one scandal with another" instead of producing solutions to citizens' problems.
Addressing the government and the opposition, Arıkan stated that the agenda is constantly changing, questions remain unanswered, and debates are left inconclusive, saying, "This nation is tired of you listing each other's faults."
