Minister Kurum's 'Vaniköy' commentary: 'It is the IMM that allowed illegal structures'
Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum blamed the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) regarding the illegal structures in Vaniköy. Kurum stated, "It is the IMM that turned a blind eye to the environmental massacre. We initiated the demolition of the illegal structures, yet the IMM ignored the process."
Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum made statements regarding the illegal structures in Vaniköy, Istanbul. While conducting inspections at the Basketball Development Center, which was built in place of the Abdi İpekçi Sports Hall, Kurum also addressed the demolition process in Vaniköy during a press conference.
'IT IS THE IMM THAT ALLOWED ILLEGAL STRUCTURES'
Responding to journalists' questions regarding the demolition process of the illegal structures in Vaniköy, Kurum stated that the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality had allowed the illegal structures. Kurum said, “We identified this environmental massacre and warned the IMM both in writing and verbally. However, the IMM turned a blind eye to the illegal structures during this process. We initiated the demolition of the illegal structures, but the IMM did not take any steps in this regard.”
Emphasizing that the demolition process of the illegal structures is continuing under the supervision of the teams from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Kurum stated, “The IMM wanted to get involved in the demolition process at the last minute, but they are not sincere. They should have been environmentally conscious from the start.”
'IMM IS BUSY PUTTING ON A SHOW'
Stating that the IMM intervened in the demolition process, Minister Kurum said, “The IMM was content with just watching the environmental massacre in Vaniköy. They are trying to put on a show after we took action. Protecting the Bosphorus is the responsibility of all of Turkey.”
Minister Murat Kurum stated that after the completion of the demolition process in Vaniköy, the area will be reforested and the structures that harm nature will be removed.
