President and AKP Chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Haniyeh: 'I strongly condemn this treacherous assassination'

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh lost his life as a result of a terrorist attack on his residence in Tehran.

President and AKP Chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated in a post on his social media account following the assassination, "I strongly condemn and curse the treacherous assassination carried out in Tehran against Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh."

Erdoğan noted the following in his statement:

"This assassination is a despicable act aimed at disrupting the Palestinian Cause, the glorious resistance of Gaza, and the rightful struggle of our Palestinian brothers, as well as demoralizing and intimidating Palestinians.

Whatever the purpose of the heinous attacks previously carried out against Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, Abdel Aziz al-Rantisi, and many other political figures in Gaza, the purpose of the assassination of my brother Ismail Haniyeh is the same; however, Zionist barbarism will once again fail to achieve its goals, just as it has until today.

With a stronger stance from the Islamic world and the alliance of humanity, God willing, the terror that Israel is spreading in our geography, starting with the oppression and genocide in Gaza, will surely come to an end, and our region and our world will find peace.

To this end, as Turkey, we will continue to try every path, push every door, and support our Palestinian brothers with all our means and all our strength. We will continue to work for the establishment of a free, sovereign, and independent State of Palestine, based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

I pray for God's mercy upon my brother Ismail Haniyeh, who was martyred as a result of this heinous attack; I extend my condolences to his family, our Gazan and Palestinian brothers, and the Islamic world.

May the Lord honor him with His paradise and His presence."
