Profanity used by Celal Adan in General Assembly not recorded in minutes: Resignation demanded

Deliberations on the 12th Development Plan have begun in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). The General Assembly convened under the chairmanship of Deputy Speaker Bekir Bozdağ.

Before moving to the agenda, HEDEP Group Deputy Chair Meral Danış Beştaş requested the floor from her seat. Beştaş claimed that during the General Assembly session on Thursday, October 26, Deputy Speaker Celal Adan used an offensive expression directed at Ağrı MP Sırrı Sakık and her party's group, and requested that Bozdağ suspend the session to discuss the matter.

Bozdağ stated that the 12th Development Plan was on their agenda and that he could address this request after Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz's presentation.

Upon this, Beştaş requested a procedural debate. Bozdağ opened a procedural debate upon the request.

Speaking on behalf of her group, Beştaş stated that Celal Adan's expression was unacceptable and that Adan should resign.

AKP REQUESTS TIME TO EXAMINE THE DEMAND

AKP Group Deputy Chair Leyla Şahin Usta noted that the expression attributed to Adan was not in the minutes and that time was needed to evaluate the HEDEP Group's request to examine the matter.

MHP Group Deputy Chair Levent Bülbül stated that they did not find it appropriate for Adan and their group to be accused based on an expression that was not in the minutes and whose subject or target was unclear, adding that everyone has witnessed Celal Adan managing the General Assembly fairly at all times.

BOZDAĞ PROTESTED

After the speeches regarding the procedural debate were completed, Bekir Bozdağ stated that there was no change in his stance and that they would proceed to the agenda.

Upon this, the HEDEP Group protested Bozdağ's stance by banging on their desks. When Bozdağ reiterated that the deliberations would continue, HEDEP MPs gathered around the podium. Consequently, Bozdağ suspended the session.

After the break, Bekir Bozdağ stated that the deliberations would begin and invited Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz to the podium to make his presentation on the 12th Development Plan.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Taking the floor in the Parliament General Assembly, HEDEP MP Sırrı Sakık stated that AKP President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had used the terms "Lazistan" and "Kurdistan" at a group meeting, saying, “MHP and CHP officials should go and look at the secret sessions of the Parliament, read them. They will see the word Kurd there. They will see Kurdistan, they will see Lazistan, they will see the Circassians. Is Mustafa Kemal a separatist? When Mustafa Kemal was calling Kurdish MPs, he was saying 'Kurdistan'. Mr. Erdoğan was saying this, and he was saying it correctly. We also sign our names under this” he had expressed.

Later taking the floor, Celal Adan had said, “While not wanting to enter into any polemic here, when the Republic of Turkey was being founded, those who fired bullets at the unity, togetherness, brotherhood, and mercy of our nation, martyring our soldiers, police, and our citizens in the East and Southeast, and while their name was PKK, if an MP had said 'The Turkish soldier will drown in PKK saliva', they would not have been able to leave this Parliament alive during the period when Mustafa Kemal founded the state. Therefore, this assessment must be made.”

WHAT DID CELAL ADAN SAY?

Taking the floor from his seat in response to Celal Adan, Sırrı Sakık said, "There is no benefit to anyone in taking what I said and identifying it with the PKK, pulling it to that point," while at that moment, Adan was heard saying "Bastards," thinking his microphone was off.
