Şamil Tayyar’s reaction to AKP over Etimesgut: You helped the CHP candidate win, what happened?

The Etimesgut Municipal Council convened to determine an acting mayor to serve in place of Etimesgut Mayor Erdal Beşikçioğlu, who was arrested and suspended from his duties.

Yeni Parti candidate Mehmet Özdemir and CHP candidate Seda Dilber competed in the election.

As none of the candidates could secure the required majority in the first three rounds, the election proceeded to a fourth round.

In the third round, Özdemir received 19 votes, while Dilber received 22. In the final round, Özdemir remained at 19 votes, while Dilber was elected acting mayor of Etimesgut with 21 votes.

Following the election, former AKP deputy Şamil Tayyar criticized the stance of AKP and MHP council members in a post on his social media account.

Tayyar stated that AKP and MHP members cast blank or invalid votes in the first two rounds, arguing that the result in the fourth round meant that members of the People's Alliance had supported the CHP candidate.

Tayyar also drew attention to the statement Dilber made after the results were announced. Quoting Dilber’s words, “Our goal is to protect the trust until my mayor and my colleagues return while they are inside. We believe in their innocence,” Tayyar concluded his post with the words, “My words are for our friends: You helped the CHP candidate win, what happened?”
