The Ataşehir District Governorate has imposed a ban on the distribution of leaflets, the setting up of stands, and similar activities in the vicinity of schools. The decision was served to the TİP Ataşehir District Organization during the campaign conducted by the Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) with the demand of "one free meal for children in schools."
TİP İstanbul Provincial Chair Furkan Seyhan stated in a post on his social media account that the notification was delivered via the police. Seyhan stated that the ban covers the leaflet and stand activities they have been conducting in school vicinities.
Reporting that the governorate's justification included the phrase "grave incidents occurring in front of schools, in school vicinities, and inside schools," Seyhan said that it was not clearly written which incidents were being referred to. Seyhan argued that this justification was linked to armed school attacks that occurred in Kahramanmaraş and Manisa.
We could not understand what connection was established between the attacks that the authorities could not prevent and our demand for one meal for children.
In his statement, Seyhan reacted to the decision by noting that children are not being fed sufficiently in schools and that parents are struggling to fill lunchboxes. He expressed that TİP intends to continue the campaign in different districts of Istanbul.
