The Hürriyet Party issued a statement on its social media account regarding İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay's transition to the AK Party.
In the post shared on the party's X account, harsh criticisms were directed at the ruling party. The statement argued that some figures who had served in opposition parties for many years had joined the ranks of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for "personal gain."
The ruling party is usurping what it could not win at the ballot box through pressure and political bargaining. The fact that figures who have served in opposition parties for years are joining Erdoğan's ranks in pursuit of personal gain also serves to perpetuate this oppressive order.
In the remainder of the statement, the Hürriyet Party declared that they are against politics being turned into a "gateway for personal gain," and alleged that national sovereignty is being eroded through arrests, the appointment of trustees, and political transfers.
The party stated that it would continue its struggle against this process.
