Tuncer Bakırhan calls on Justice Minister Akın Gürlek: 'They must be suspended, this is a provocation'

DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan attended a public meeting held in Bitlis alongside TBMM Deputy Speaker and DEM Party Van MP Pervin Buldan. Evaluating recent developments during the event, Bakırhan specifically highlighted the arrests that took place in Ağrı.

“We will share the process with you. Everyone except us is talking about this process. But they are telling it wrong. They are not telling it correctly. We will explain to you what is happening in Rojava and our work in the parliamentary commission. We will share with you one by one what the Kurdish people and Turkish democracy will gain if this process succeeds, and what we will achieve. That is why this meeting is important. I hope this blessed month of Ramadan will lead to good things. May our hope, our expectation, and our struggle be good. May there be peace. Let Kurds without identity and status have an identity. We say they should attain a legal status where they can live as equal citizens. We are carrying out the struggle for this,” he said.

'ACCEPT THE FUTURE OF THE KURDS'

Pointing to the fact that Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) General Commander Mazlum Abdi met with representatives from numerous countries at the recently held Munich Security Conference, Bakırhan said:

“Do not worry. Hopefully, Rojava will be guaranteed in Syria. At the Munich Conference, the whole world accepted the representatives of the Kurds, whom they call terrorists. From the US State Department to Saudi Arabia, France, and Germany, almost all country representatives attending the Munich Conference met with Mr. Mazlum Abdi and Ilhan Ahmed. Even if they are still using other definitions for them in our country, we say 'Good morning.' The world has now accepted the Kurds. It has accepted the status of the Kurds in Rojava. Accept the future of the Kurds."

Criticizing the decisions made by the commission established in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey regarding the Kurdish issue, Bakırhan stated: “The things provided by the parliamentary commission are not final and absolute. The parliamentary commission actually opened the door for the Assembly to pass certain laws. The parliamentary commission does not have the will or the power to solve the 100-year-old Kurdish issue anyway. The parliamentary commission had a duty. That is to create an infrastructure that will form the legal and legislative basis to end this conflict process and to present the relevant specialized commission proposals. You have already followed many things together. You have seen many things. Our friends in the Assembly stated that they agreed with some of the things prepared by the parliamentary commission. They also placed reservations on some articles. We expressed our objections. Because we do not look at some things the same way. In other words, we do not think the same way as an approach that ignores us, still traps us in a terror bracket, and brings a 100-year-old political and historical issue into a terror and security bracket. The Kurdish issue is not a terror issue; it is a democracy issue. It is an issue of freedoms. It is a language issue. It is an identity issue. Therefore, we have expressed our reservations regarding the parliamentary report on this matter.”

JUDICIAL CRITICISM FROM BAKIRHAN TO JUSTICE MINISTER GÜRLEK

Speaking about Mihriban Dal and her mother Güneş Yaşmin, who were arrested in Ağrı on charges of “terrorist organization propaganda” for dancing at a wedding using yellow, red, and green scarves, Bakırhan criticized the prosecutors and judges who made the arrest decision and used the following expressions:

“Look, just yesterday in Ağrı, our Provincial Youth Assembly member Mihriban Dal and her mother Güneş Yaşmin were arrested. Why? They danced with yellow, red, and green scarves. This is a shame in the 21st century. And those prosecutors and judges are making arrest decisions. Now I ask those bureaucrats in Ankara who are wagging their fingers and getting angry; is this how we will provide peace? Is this how we will be brothers? Are we going to provide peace with this judiciary that still issues arrest warrants for the colors in a Kurd's hand and still bans a Kurd's dance? I want to make a call from here, from Bitlis. The authorities governing the country, starting with the Minister of Justice, must launch an investigation into the prosecutors and judges who committed this provocation. This is a provocation. What does it mean that we will not dance, that we will not carry the colors we want? Will the Kurd ask you which colors to love? Whoever these prosecutors and judges are, they must be immediately suspended from duty, and an investigation must be opened. It must be revealed who and what they serve. We do not accept this. We reject it, we condemn it. We say this is a provocation and we will continue to say so.”
