YENI Party Chairman Özgür Özel addressed the "fund fraud" controversy during his speech at the Denizli Metropolitan Municipality's 2024-2026 Collective Opening and Groundbreaking Ceremony.
Özel described the restitution accounts, which he stated were opened for individuals involved in the fund fraud, as "repentance accounts," arguing that instead of punishing the criminals, a system has been established based on the mentality of "bring back the money you stole and put it back."
Stating that he was addressing AKP members in Denizli, Özel asked, "If someone at a bank steals the bank's money today and isn't caught, they commit that sin; but if they are caught, is it said, 'Come, put the money back, and you can continue your job'?"
"AKP MEMBERS AND MHP MEMBERS ARE ALSO FUMING"
Özel claimed that those involved in the fraud were told, "Leave your sin in the mosque courtyard without anyone seeing, put it in the repentance account, and we won't bother with you," adding, "There is no such legal order. AKP members and MHP members are also fuming about this."
Criticizing impunity in his speech, Özel said, "The rule applied to the citizen cannot turn into impunity when it reaches the top level of the AKP. This nation will not forgive those who forgave the ministers caught with shoeboxes in the past."
