YENİ Party MP Özgür Karabat questions Ziraat Bank on Tera Yatırım: How was a 585 million lira guarantee provided?

YENİ Party Istanbul MP Özgür Karabat has raised questions regarding the financial relationship between Ziraat Bank and Tera Yatırım, which was subject to an operation as part of a fund investigation, leading to the arrest of its executives.

In a statement on his social media account, the YENİ Party MP alleged that Ziraat Bank has been providing letters of guarantee to the Stock Exchange Money Market for Tera Yatırım since 2024.

According to Özgür Karabat, the guarantee amount in question was 105 million TL on December 31, 2024, 135 million TL on March 31, 2025, 22.5 million TL on June 30, 2025, and 585 million TL on September 30, 2025.

Stating that the guarantee, which was 22.5 million TL at the end of June 2025, was increased to 585 million TL within three months, Karabat argued that this increase amounted to "562.5 million TL" and that there was an extraordinary jump in the non-cash risk undertaken by the public bank.

KARABAT EMPHASIZES PUBLIC BANK STATUS

In his statement, MP Karabat asked, "Based on what criteria was a non-cash limit of this magnitude allocated from Ziraat Bank to Tera? What collateral was received in exchange for the 585 million TL? What was the commission rate? Who approved the limit?"

Emphasizing that Ziraat Bank is a public bank, Karabat stated that the relationship with Tera Yatırım should be evaluated from this perspective. Karabat claimed that the 585 million TL guarantee remained at the same level until March 2026, and that during this period, the amount sourced from Ziraat reached approximately 73 percent of Tera's total letters of guarantee.

Using the phrase, "It must be explained how and why this relationship reached such a scale," Karabat said that public banks operate on behalf of the public and that the financial relationship in question should be disclosed to the public.
