DİSK Basın-İş has announced that journalist and union Disciplinary Board member Derya Okatan has been arrested. According to the union's statement, Okatan was taken into custody from her home in Ankara and subsequently transported to Istanbul.
The statement noted that Okatan was referred to the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan, Istanbul, and that the prosecutor requested her arrest without taking her statement.
In its statement, the union reacted to the detention and arrest of journalists for reporting and practicing their profession, stating that pressures on press and freedom of expression have intensified.
Journalism is not a crime. Derya Okatan must be released immediately.

DİSK Basın-İş stated that it will continue to stand in solidarity with Okatan and "all journalists who are subjected to the pressure of the political power because they insist on journalism." The statement emphasized that they will continue to defend journalism despite detention and arrest decisions, which they described as unlawful, and access bans.
