Erdoğan Şahin, General Manager and CEO of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Turkey, announced that 140,000 units of the new generation Toyota C-HR, the first Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) car produced in Turkey, will be manufactured next year.

Sharing detailed information about the new generation C-HR, Şahin said, "Our production for next year is 140,000. We have just started this year as well. We will produce 35,000-40,000 C-HRs in the 2.5-month period until the end of the year."

Stating that they are not experiencing any problems regarding material supply and that there is no situation affecting production, Şahin expressed that the new generation C-HR will soon be introduced to the domestic market and that they aim to meet the incoming demand.

Şahin noted that 90 percent of the factory's production is exported, adding that the C-HR has high brand awareness and a large customer base in Europe, and that there are already customers waiting for the vehicle.

Discussing the production of the battery to be used in the vehicle, Şahin said, "The battery production line does not look much like the car production line. The battery is a process that needs to be done much more sensitively, safely, and carefully. While planning our line, we built it in such a way that we gave as much importance to dust sensitivity as a paint shop; we designed a process that is completely isolated from dust. We planned and designed the production in a way that it would not be exposed to any risks. We trust the quality of the batteries we produce because we were very careful while designing this line and did not shy away from any investment."

Pointing out that the company's factory in Sakarya is 100 percent Toyota-owned, Şahin stated, "The fact that Toyota produces such a vehicle globally only in Turkey and exports it from here to 150 countries, and adds additional markets to these, is actually an indicator of the trust in us, and indirectly, the trust in Turkey."

Şahin also added that they do not foresee any chip-related issues in the production process.

Ali Haydar Bozkurt, General Manager and CEO of Toyota Turkey Marketing and Sales, also stated that the C-HR is very valuable to them and that the vehicle is a model that attracts interest in Turkey.

Stating that 1.8 hybrid engine vehicles are popular because they fall under the scope of the Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV) incentive, Bozkurt said, "The renewed C-HR has emerged as a design that meets customer demands compared to the previous one. Therefore, we expect a sales volume well above the previous sales performance. It is the first Toyota Plug-in hybrid vehicle to be produced within European borders. We are experiencing the excitement and pride of being produced in our beautiful country, which deserves the best of everything, especially in the 100th anniversary of our Republic."

Discussing Toyota Turkey's sales figures, Bozkurt pointed out that they had increased their market share to 12 percent before the pandemic but fell from fourth to ninth place in the market due to the impact of the pandemic, adding, "In this environment where the problems related to the chip crisis and logistics have been resolved, we returned to our original position and even a step above it with a good surge in October, and we closed the market in 3rd place last month."

At the meeting, Toyota Motor Europe President Yoshihiro Nakata, Toyota Europe Chief Operating Officer Matthew Harrison, and Toyota Europe C-HR Chief Engineer Toshei Kanei also answered questions from members of the press.
