Some amphibian species at risk of extinction, according to research
According to a new study, more than 40 percent of amphibian species, such as frogs and salamanders, could go extinct due to climate change.
Research conducted by the International Union for Conservation of Nature has revealed that more than 40 percent of amphibian species, such as frogs and salamanders, are at risk of extinction due to climate change.
ANIMALS' FUR, SKIN, AND MOISTURE LEVELS CANNOT ADAPT TO CLIMATE CHANGE
It is known that factors such as diseases and habitat destruction play a role in the extinction of amphibian species. However, the new research has determined that climate change is a greater risk for amphibians worldwide.
It was determined that approximately 40 percent of the 8,011 amphibian species examined within the scope of the research are at risk of extinction due to climate change.

The research also stated that these animals cannot easily adapt to the rising temperatures resulting from climate change because they lack scales, fur, and feathers that help regulate and balance temperature and moisture levels in the body.
Jennifer Luedtke, one of the lead authors of the study, noted that protecting the animals' habitats alone would not be effective or sufficient to prevent the extinction of amphibian species.
Kelsey Neam, one of the study's authors, also stated that amphibians are highly sensitive to changes in their environment, and that events such as rising sea levels, forest fires, changes in humidity and temperature, and adverse weather conditions resulting from climate change could also cause the loss of important breeding grounds for amphibians, which could lead to an increase in deaths.
The details of the research were published in the journal "Nature".
