In an interview published yesterday in El Pais, one of Spain's leading newspapers, Munoz-Canoves said, "We are trying to keep cells and organisms young and healthy for as long as possible. In other words, we are trying to delay the onset of diseases, to turn back time a little."

CELLULAR REPROGRAMMING

In the interview reported by Independent Türkçe, Munoz-Canoves, who conducts research aimed at extending human life at Altos Labs, headquartered in Silicon Valley, California, stated that they are focusing on delaying aging by strengthening cells and enabling them to rebuild themselves.

Shinya Yamanaka, who heads the scientific advisory board at Altos Labs, developed a method in his 2006 study called "cellular reprogramming," which laid the foundation for groundbreaking technologies aimed at extending human life by preventing aging.

The company's staff also includes biochemist Juan Carlos Izpisua Belmonte. In a study published in 2016, Belmonte developed a method that reduced signs of cellular and physiological aging in living mice, extending the animals' lifespans by an average of 6 weeks.

Referring to these studies, Munoz-Canoves said, "Aging can be reversed. A cell can be rejuvenated." The 61-year-old scientist noted that the studies are still in the early stages and that they are examining how this might develop in humans.

The Spanish biologist, who worked at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona before joining Altos Labs, continued:

Our hygiene conditions are better. We have access to vaccines, education, and healthcare services. For those currently in the world, living to 100, or for newborns, living more than 100 years will not be very complicated. But I don't know if this will be 120, 130, or 140. Rejuvenating and turning back time is something very revolutionary. This will not happen tomorrow. However, the accumulation of progress made will allow us to advance faster than we think.

Altos Labs, which has a budget of approximately 3 billion dollars, has also received investment from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Russian-born Israeli businessman, entrepreneur, and physicist Yuri Milner.
