Foldable phones are already some of the best Android phones you can buy. Having two screens offers various possibilities for using your phone with your favorite applications.

On Samsung Galaxy foldable phones, you can use the cover screens as a viewfinder. This makes it possible to take much higher quality photos than with the front cameras. Apart from this, you can run both the outer and inner screens simultaneously. While taking photos of a friend or family member, both you and the person on the other side can see how they look in the photo.

WHAT WILL CHANGE WITH ANDROID 14?

In a report shared by Chip, while Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip smartphones come with some built-in features that use both screens at the same time, there are no third-party applications that support this. However, this situation will change with Android 14.

With Android 14, Google has created the necessary APIs that allow applications to run in dual-screen mode and use both the front and rear screens. Since manufacturers need to make some changes on their end to take advantage of these APIs, Samsung has provided this for its foldable devices with the Android 14 update.

It will be interesting to see what developers can do with the official tools available in Android 14. When Google announced the Pixel Fold a few months ago, it showed a use case: Google Assistant's dual-screen interpreter mode allowed you to speak or type text on the inner screen while showing a translated version on the outer screen.

It seems likely that it will take some time for third-party applications to get involved. Foldable devices are not selling like hotcakes, and since Android 14 was released recently, it has not yet come to most foldable smartphones. This includes Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip devices, and for these devices, Android 14 is still in the beta stage and will continue to be so for a few more weeks.
