At the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Congress held in Madrid, the capital of Spain, BioNTech founders Uğur Şahin and Özlem Türeci announced that the initial results of the cancer vaccine they have been working on for 15 years are promising.

The initial results obtained from the cancer vaccine CARVac, developed by BioNTech, revealed that it could stop the growth of tumors and even shrink them.

TREATMENT OF 10 THOUSAND CANCER PATIENTS TARGETED BY 2030

It was stated that the vaccine was administered to 44 patients in four doses and that tumors shrank by at least 30 percent in 59 percent of the subjects. It was noted that in 95 percent of the subjects, the cancer became stable and stopped growing following the vaccine.

It was reported that a dose-dependent increase in inflammatory reactions was observed in 23 of the subjects during the vaccine administration, and side effects such as low blood pressure and fever were seen in the subjects.

BioNTech aims to treat approximately 10 thousand cancer patients by 2030.
