Headphones featuring a system called semantic hearing!

Current headphones offer sound-blocking features such as active noise cancellation or passive noise isolation. Although various features are added, users cannot filter out external sounds as they wish while using the headphones.

Seeking to overcome this, researchers have succeeded in developing an AI-based headphone system that leaves the choice of which sounds to hear up to the individual.

RECOGNIZES 20 DIFFERENT SOUND CLASSES

This system essentially allows external sound captured by the headphones to be transmitted to smartphones, where the user can cancel out unwanted environmental noises. The team calls the system in these new headphones "semantic hearing."

It is reported that the headphones, which work with both voice commands and a smartphone application, possess 20 different sound classes. For example, these include external sounds such as a baby crying, a vacuum cleaner, or birds chirping.

The headphones are currently in the development stage, and there are plans to bring a commercialized version to users.
