Is OpenAI's ChatGPT or Google's Bard better?
Although ChatGPT was released much earlier than Bard, recent reports show that Bard is closing the gap with its artificial intelligence model, Gemini.
The generative artificial intelligence revolution has perhaps become the most talked-about topic of this year. This revolution, initiated by ChatGPT, continued as many companies developed their own artificial intelligence models, with Google most recently introducing Gemini. Google's chatbot, Bard, was not very well-received at first.
While ChatGPT uses GPT-3.5 in its free version, it features a GPT-4-based artificial intelligence in its paid version.
ChatGPT has completed its first year and has managed to become the most talked-about topic in the world. The biggest problem for ChatGPT, which crashed on the day of its release due to millions of active users and later improved its infrastructure to answer user questions much faster and more smoothly, was that it was not connected to the internet in real-time and could not access information newer than 2021.

OpenAI solved this obstacle in the Pro version by providing access to online information with GPT-4.
Google's Bard, on the other hand, could not provide very good answers at first. Google is solving this problem with its advanced artificial intelligence, Gemini.
ChatGPT Plus and Gemini Pro can be cited as highly advanced chatbots based on sophisticated language models. The 'Pro' and 'Plus' versions of both models are the newest and best options offered by the companies and can respond to queries faster and better than previous versions. Most importantly, both have been trained on up-to-date information rather than just knowing what was on the internet up until 2021.
On the other hand, they are not both equal; for example, while Bard is offered completely free of charge, a monthly payment is required to access the GPT-4-powered ChatGPT Plus. Furthermore, Bard, supported by Gemini Pro, does not have some of the capabilities of ChatGPT Plus. Compared to ChatGPT, which can process text and respond with options like photos and videos, Bard cannot do these things, but according to Google, this will become possible with 'Gemini Ultra'. Google has not yet released Gemini Ultra, but it will be made available in the future.

Both chatbots can sometimes struggle to answer 'simple or complex' requests. However, Bard offers a slightly slower experience compared to ChatGPT.
This is understandable because both companies have placed limitations on the types of responses their AI bots can provide. There is a special barrier in place to prevent situations such as security policy violations, copyright infringements, and racist attacks. This also increases response time.
Advantages of Bard:
- It is free, and since this version has internet access, questions can be asked about new information.
- Voice input is possible for Bard, meaning it can be used by speaking.
- Generated text can be exported.
Advantages of ChatGPT:
- It has much older and customizable versions.
- It can provide more consistent answers compared to Bard.
- It is easier to use.
- In the paid version, it is possible to generate images or videos from text.
- It is constantly improving with new updates.
