The Dubai Airshow 2023, held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, is hosting more than 1400 participants from 95 countries. Numerous aircraft developed by companies from different countries are being exhibited at the fair.

One of the vehicles attracting attention at the event is the Midnight, a vertical take-off and landing aircraft designed by the US-based aviation company Archer, which was developed to be fully electric. The aircraft, which has the capacity to fly up to 160 kilometers, was designed for urban journeys of up to 80 kilometers.

FIRST FLIGHT PLANNED FOR 2026

Designed with a speed capacity of 241 kilometers per hour, the vehicle aims to reduce journeys that take hours down to minutes. The vehicle, which can cover 40 kilometers in 10 minutes, can carry 4 passengers excluding the pilot. Offering luggage space as well, the Midnight can travel 32 kilometers with a 12-minute charge.

Operating 100 times quieter than a helicopter, the aircraft is expected to offer an alternative to road transport with its competitive pricing policy. Numerous test flights have been conducted with the vehicle to date. The certification processes for the vehicle, which aims for safety certification at levels similar to commercial airlines, are ongoing.

The vehicle, which is envisioned for use in different fields such as passenger transport, cargo and logistics, and emergency services, is targeted to serve as a taxi in the United Arab Emirates and India in 2026.

In his statement, Archer Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Adam Goldstein stated that they hope the Midnight will complete its certification process in the US in 2025, and that with the completion of this process, they plan to begin international operations in 2026.

Emphasizing that their company is one of the best in the world in its field, Goldstein expressed that they possess advanced engineering, certification processes, and production stages.

Dubai Airshow 2023 visitor Shahrzad Nakhei stated that the exterior and interior design of the vehicle is very impressive, saying, "It is truly incredible that this aircraft will be used as a taxi. I definitely want to experience it when it starts service."
