New development in the case between Epic Games and Apple
The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected the appeal filed by video game production and development company Epic Games in its antitrust lawsuit against Apple.
The Supreme Court rejected Epic Games' appeal against a lower court's ruling that "Apple's in-app payment policies do not violate federal antitrust laws," as well as Apple's appeal against the same ruling that prohibited certain app store rules.
THE CLAIM HAD BEEN REJECTED
In 2020, Epic Games sued Apple on the grounds that it violated federal antitrust laws by requiring consumers to obtain apps through the App Store and mandating the use of its own system for in-app purchases.
In 2021, a U.S. district court rejected the antitrust claims against Apple but ruled that Apple's prohibition on app developers using payment methods outside of its own system violated competition law.
The appeals court, to which Epic Games took the decision, also largely upheld the district court's ruling last year.
